Craniosacral work is gentle, soothing, noninvasive, hands-on therapy that can be done as early as within the first few days or even minutes of a child's birth. A craniosacral practitioner primarily works with the bones of the head, pelvis and spine, the connective tissue and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and the nervous system.
During an initial visit, we do an overall evaluation to make sure that the baby's structure is in alignment after being in the womb and going through the birth process, whether vaginal or c-section. A typical session would start at the feet then continue working with the pelvis, spine, and cranium. We want to make sure the structure is aligned so the baby's digestive, nervous, endocrine, muscular and cranial systems are working at their highest potential.
Follow up visits ensure that the changes within the structure are sustaining. These sessions are more specific than the initial overall evaluation and work to meet the needs of your baby as s/he rapidly grows and changes. Craniosacral work is wonderful for infants because they are so open and receptive at birth.
